BANCYFELIN CARNIVAL

The day began with a parade of floats through the village led by the Queen’s float prepares yet again by Haydn Thomas, Penybryn. Thanks to Mark Snelling for Taf Building Supplies St. Clears, for the lorry.

On arriving at the hall, vice-chairman of the hall committee Colin Pearson welcomed the large crowd, and introduced the judges. Standing in for the Mayor of St. Clears, Keith Major and his wife Ann, was Doctor Mike Fletcher, deputy Mayor and Jean Fletcher. The other judges were Dr. Mark Turtle from Llangynog and Ian and Georgie Tobin, also from Llangynog.

The judges then crowned the queens and princes assisted by Sally Walters and Hugh Jones. Carnival Queen was Fran Edwards. Her attendants were Lora Morgan and Stefanie Marsh. Rose Queen was Gwawr Waters, supported by Sophie Ruliads and Alisha-Jo. Fairy Queen was little Mali Davies. Her attendants are Phoebe Morgan and Sioned Hight. The boys did not miss out, because Thomas Maynard was a handsome Prince Charming, and Steffan Lewis was Prince Consort.

The judges then toured the floats, all of which very entertaining. The Fox and Hounds had a very inventive “Little Bancyfelin” theme and came third. Second was “Sali Mali” with lots of youngsters dressed up as characters from the programme. The winner was “The Circus” a very colourful float full of grown ups and children in fantastic costumes.

The day continued with judging individual prizes, and refreshments in the hall.

Everyone returned in the evening for the sports on the school field, by kind permission of head of Bancyfelin, Mrs Gwyneth Stephens. Cups and medals for the marathon were this year sponsored by the Werndale Hospital.

The Hall Committee would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to make the carnival and sports a success and ensured that it was a great day out in the village of Bancyfelin.
